Sacred Roots-200 Hour Indigenous Yoga Teacher Training
Launching January 2027
A collaboration between Indigenous Yoga Collective + Rooted Resiliency
Sacred Roots is a 200-hour yoga teacher training created for Indigenous community members who want to deepen their personal practice, explore yoga through an Indigenous-centred and relational lens, and develop the skills and confidence to share yoga and wellness practices within their families, communities and beyond.
Our first cohort will move together through the four seasons of 2027 in a hybrid learning format that combines an opening in-person gathering in Lummi, Washington, live virtual teaching, self-paced learning, peer practice, small-group mentorship and summer electives.
At the heart of Sacred Roots is relationship: relationship to Spirit, ourselves, our bodies, our communities, the lands we come from and live on, one another, and the teachings we carry forward.
About Sacred Roots
Sacred Roots grew from a shared passion among the four of us as women, mothers, yoga learners, teachers and wellness leaders.
We wanted to create a learning container that felt different from a conventional yoga teacher training: one that recognized the realities of Indigenous learners, working professionals, parents, caregivers and community leaders, while creating enough space for meaningful learning, relationship and practice.
The program brings yogic teachings into conversation with Indigenous ways of knowing, seasonal teachings, embodiment, land, community wellness and cultural responsibility.
Participants will study foundational yoga philosophy, asana, anatomy and physiology, pranayama, meditation, subtle-body teachings, teaching methodology, trauma-informed and healing-centered practice, ethics, sequencing, accessibility and community-based teaching.
But Sacred Roots is also about more than learning how to teach a yoga class.
It is an invitation to deepen your relationship with your own wellness, explore what it means to teach from a place of humility and service, and consider how movement, breath and embodied practices can support Indigenous people and communities.
The seasonal framework at the heart of the curriculum explores the relationship between Yogic teachings, Indigenous teachings and the qualities and energies of the seasons.
-
Sacred Roots is grounded in Indigenous ways of learning: through relationship, story, practice, reflection, community, and time.
This is not a conventional yoga teacher training with Indigenous content added on. The program is being created for Indigenous learners and is shaped by the realities many of us carry as parents, caregivers, professionals, community members, and people connected to culture, land, and family.
We honour yoga’s roots while also making space for learners to stay grounded in their own Nations, values, and ways of knowing. Indigenous Knowledge Holders, guest teachers, and experienced wellness practitioners will be invited into the training to deepen the learning and bring different perspectives.
The program is relational and cohort-based. Learners will move through the year together, practice in pairs and small groups, and support one another through teaching practice, reflection, and shared learning.
Sacred Roots also takes a healing-centred and strength-based approach. We focus on what learners already carry, while building confidence, embodied awareness, self-regulation, accessible teaching skills, and practical tools that can be shared in community.
The goal is not simply to complete 200 hours. It is to develop a deeper personal practice, grow into your own teaching voice, and build the skills to offer yoga and wellness practices in ways that are respectful, grounded, and useful to the people and communities you serve.
-
Sacred Roots is designed for Indigenous adults interested in yoga, movement, embodied wellness, and community care.
You do not need to be an advanced yoga practitioner already.
You may be coming to the program because you want to:
Learn how to teach yoga alongside Indigenous contemplative practices
deepen your personal practice
integrate movement or mindfulness into your existing wellness work
bring more accessible wellness opportunities into your community
explore yoga alongside other Indigenous learners
develop skills in embodiment, breath and nervous-system regulation
connect with a supportive Indigenous wellness community
We especially welcome learners who are balancing family and community responsibilities.
The program has intentionally been designed with those realities in mind.
